ClimatePlan is teaming up with GRID Alternatives and Access Clean California partners to conduct an analysis on zero emission vehicle policy and funding. This work will build on both ClimatePlan’s decolonizing transportation campaign and Access Clean California.

Introduction to GRID and Access Clean California

For those unfamiliar, GRID alternatives (GRID) is a non-profit that is working to build community powered solutions to advance economic and environmental justice through renewable energy. GRID operates in regions across the United States and through their Tribal Program, as well as internationally. Locally, they work with the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to implement Access Clean California, a statewide project that creates easy and comprehensive access to climate equity programs. So far, this project has convened a robust network and is directly investing in on-the-ground outreach providers. The Access Clean California network, GRID, and CARB together developed a Benefits Finder, Website, and a Resource Hub. These resources are designed to help streamline application processes for users.

What Will ClimatePlan be doing to add to the work?

ClimatePlan will be working with Access Clean CA partners, GRID, and our network to help analyze and create policy recommendations that improve electric vehicle (EV) deployment. We also plan to work together to evaluate how state agencies are engaging with underserved communities and develop recommendations on how to improve engagement.

ClimatePlan has a history of working to make California’s complicated transportation funding more equitable and accessible. Most recently, we developed a transportation funding report card, which is the first of its kind to evaluate multiple state transportation funding programs against criteria important to the network.

We plan on using the best practices and lessons learned from developing the report card for this effort. We will be reviewing literature, doing expert interviews, leading small group discussions and analyzing our findings.  Our goal for this work is for communities to meaningfully inform electric vehicle integration, and to amplify the ways communities want to engage with state agencies.
