Please join us in welcoming Carey Knecht as ClimatePlan’s Interim Director. We are pleased that Carey is stepping into this leadership role after her years serving as ClimatePlan’s Associate Director.
Carey Knecht has been with ClimatePlan almost since the organization’s beginning, coming on board in 2009. She led ClimatePlan’s work on Sustainable Communities Strategies in the San Joaquin Valley and Southern California, where coalitions won stronger plans for communities and the environment. Before that, Carey supported ClimatePlan’s successful campaign to set ambitious targets for regional greenhouse gas reductions across the state. Carey holds a Master of City Planning degree from U.C. Berkeley.
We appreciate Carey’s willingness to step in as Interim Director, as the organization benefits greatly from her experience and expertise. We know Carey will see the organization smoothly through this transition.
We would also like to thank Richard Raya, our previous director, for all he brought to ClimatePlan in his time with us, especially his positive energy, creativity, and commitment to expanding economic opportunity for all Californians. We wish him well in all his future endeavors.
This transition provides us with an opportunity to dive deep into what’s next for the state of California and ClimatePlan. Our coalition has an exciting history, from our instrumental role in the implementation of SB 375 to the successful passage of strong Sustainable Communities Strategies in many regions across the state. It’s a good time for us to step back and look at the policy landscape, reflect on what we have accomplished, and set our course for the future.
We’re proud to be part of ClimatePlan, and we look forward to the next chapter in our work together to create a sustainable future for California.
